Intro to Meba _Engr 160

Hello Engineering 160 crew!

My name is Mebatsion Sileshi Gebre. I go by Meba to make life easier (also, that's what my family and friends call me).

I am from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and I am a big fan of Ethiopian food and dance. I grew up speaking Amharic, the second most widely spoken Semitic language in the world.

I am a second-year physics major at Wellesley interested in majoring in either chemistry or engineering (with Olin) as well. As a physics (and science in general) enthusiast, I have always imagined I would like engineering. I have always been curious about how things work, and amazed by how some geniuses cooked up brilliant ideas of making things like fridges, pumps, computers, etc. and then realized them.

This class is my way of testing if engineering is something I would enjoy doing beyond just observing. I can't wait to play with all the fancy machinery (safely, of course, Professor) and get creative over the semester!

Interesting facts about me:

Outside of class (between long sessions of P.Sets), I like dancing (Yanvalou!) and watching animation movies.

I may occasionally shock you with my readings of time because I am used to counting the Ethiopian way: We are currently in the year 2008 and read clocks 6 hours off from the rest of the world (not because of time zones, just a different convention). A heads up for when it is 1 pm and I tell you it is 7 or I send out an invitation to meet at 4 in the morning when I really mean 10 am.

My all-time favorite is Ice Age. I would adopt Sid the sloth as a child if he was real. Also recently watched "Home" and liked it. Loved "Inside Out"... list goes on :) What animation movie got you hooked?
